Setting:  A town in West Virginia called Friendly.

Shiloh is a book about a dog named Shiloh who is owned by Judd travers, a mean and nasty man. Eventually Shiloh runs away and Marty an 11 year old boy finds him. Desperatly trying to keep Shiloh a secret Marty finds himself lying to his family. Will Marty be able to keep Shiloh a secret or will he have to return Shiloh to Judd? Find out in this wonderful book!
My favorite character is Shiloh because he is so cute!

October:

Sign of the Beaver by Elizabeth Spear
book review by Vega

Setting:  This book is set in the forest of Maine in Colonial Times (late 1700's)

A 12 old boy named Matt is protecting his new cabin in the Maine wilderness while his dad goes back to Massachuses to get the rest of the family.  While his dad is away, Matt gets into a lot of trouble; his rifle is stolen and he is stung by a lot of bees.  Luckily some Indians save him and he makes a treaty with them.  Matt is to teach a indan boy named Attean to read in exchange for food. Attean teaches  Matt alot of neat things about living in the woods such as how to build snares or bows.
I like this book because it is suspenseful and exiting at the same time.  One of my favorite parts is when Matt falls into a  river while trying to spear a fish like Attean does.

Theme: This book tells us not to steal land from indians, but to share.  It also taught me that if you are going to make a bow and arrow, you should grease it with bear fat because that is what works best!

Guns for General Washington by Seymour Reit
A book review by Vega
This book is written from a double perspective. The two main Characters are Will Knox and General Howe.  Will Knox is a brave patriot who loves battle. He is a Colonial in the Continental Army and is dispirit for a fight. He is a good hearted man and solder.  General Howe is the British fleet commander. He is determined to take Boston from the patriots and keep it from them.
This story, set in the American Revolution, is mainly about Will Knox’s trip to get guns, canons, gun powder and ammo from Fort Ticonderoga and bring them back to Boston to blast the British out.  General Washington was running low on guns and ammo so Will suggested that Washington send him to Fort Ticonderoga to get the supplies.  Congress thought that this trip could not be completed because it would be too hard to drag 30 cannons over so many miles of rough terrain and snow.
The journey was long and treacherous. While they were crossing a frozen lake, the most powerful cannon fell through the ice.  It took about 10 men with grappling hooks and ropes to pull it back out. Once they got it back to shore they set up camp for the night because everyone was tired.
I really like this book but I think it could be longer and have more details. I think the double perspective was interesting, but sometimes confusing.  Once I thought I was reading about Will, but then someone said Howe’s name, and I realized that I was reading about him instead.  Over all I would rate it a four star book.
